By road
Car Ferries from Dover to Calais are frequent and from Portsmouth to Le Havre once a day.

From Le Havre it is some 9 hours drive plus. From Calais add another 2 hours, so we are well away from any influence from England!

The roads are excellent with considerably less traffic than the UK with a good network of Autoroutes some are free, some are toll.

We travel mostly on non-toll Autoroutes making a total toll cost about 15 euros.

There are frequent 'aires' which are the french equivqlent of our motorway services but with a pleasant difference. Intersperced between fully equiped rest areas with w/c's, fuel, meals and shop are smaller quiet rest areas with w/c's and pinic areas, ideal for a catnap sleep.

Alternatively there are several non-autoroute mini tours as the direct route crosses the Loire valley, the Dourdogne and Limousin before entering Correze and Cantal
By Air
Ryanair operate frequent low cost flights from London Stanstead to Rodez. From Rodez we are about 45 minutes drive north east. Other flights both Ryanair and EasyJet serve Bergerac (2 hours drive), Limoges (3 hours drive), Toulouse (2 hours drive)
